Fiddler on the Roof-"Matchmaker, Matchmaker" and "If I was a Rich Man"

Ok, I admit it... I have had Fiddler on the Roof songs bouncing around in my head all day... =D Everything from Sunrise, Sunset to "If I were a Rich Man" to Matchmaker, Matchmaker. I guess I know what I'll be watching sometime soon! =) I'm so glad things have changed from back then! I don't have to worry about being "stuck for good" because a matchmaker found me the perfect match... I get to be my own matchmaker...I get to decide for myself who *I* want to marry. After all, it wouldn't be the matchmaker having to live with him, now would it? So happy I live in a different time... =) I want to marry for love, not because my family background, or because my Dad/the matchmaker thinks we would look great together... ;)

Matchmaker, Matchmaker

Matchmaker, Matchmaker,
Make me a match,
Find me a find,
catch me a catch
Matchmaker, Matchmaker
Look through your book,
And make me a perfect match

Chava:
Matchmaker, Matchmaker,
I'll bring the veil,
You bring the groom,
Slender and pale.
Bring me a ring for I'm longing to be,
The envy of all I see.

Hodel:
For Papa,
Make him a scholar.

Chava:
For mama,
Make him rich as a king.

Chava and Hodel:
For me, well,
I wouldn't holler
If he were as handsome as anything.

Matchmaker, Matchmaker,
Make me a match,
Find me a find,
Catch me a catch,
Night after night in the dark I'm alone
So find me match,
Of my own.

(spoken)

Tzeitel:
Since when are you in a match, Chava? I thought you had your eye on your books.

(Hodel chuckles)

Tzeitel con't:
And you have your eye on the Rabbi's son.

Hodel:
Well, why not?
We have only one Rabbi and he has only one son.
Why shouldn't I want the best?

Tzeitel:
Because you're a girl from a poor family.
So whatever Yenta brings, you'll take, right?
Of course right!

(throws scarf over her head, imitating Yenta)
(singing)

Hodel, oh Hodel,
Have I made a match for you!
He's handsome, he's young!
Alright, he's 62.
But he's a nice man, a good catch, true?
True.

I promise you'll be happy,
And even if you're not,
There's more to life than that---
Don't ask me what.

Chava, I found him.
Won't you be a lucky bride!
He's handsome, he's tall,
That is from side to side.
But he's a nice man, a good catch, right?
Right.

You heard he has a temper.
He'll beat you every night,
But only when he's sober,
So you'll alright.

Did you think you'd get a prince?
Well I do the best I can.
With no dowry, no money, no family background
Be glad you got a man!

Chava:
Matchmaker, Matchmaker,
You know that I'm
Still very young.
Please, take your time.

Hodel:
Up to this minute,
I misunderstood
That I could get stuck for good.

Chava and Hodel:
Dear Yenta,
See that he's gentle
Remember,
You were also a bride.
It's not that
I'm sentimental

Chava and Hodel and Tzeitel:
It's just that I'm terrified!

Matchmaker, Matchmaker,
Plan me no plans
I'm in no rush
Maybe I've learned
Playing with matches
A girl can get burned
So,
Bring me no ring
Groom me no groom
Find me no find
Catch me no catch
Unless he's a matchless match.

(the song starts about 1:34)
If I were a Rich Man

[TEVYE]
'Dear God, you made many, many poor people.
I realize, of course, that it's no shame to be poor.
But it's no great honor either!
So, what would have been so terrible if I had a small fortune?'
If I were a rich man,
Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum.
All day long I'd biddy biddy bum.
If I were a wealthy man.
I wouldn't have to work hard.
Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum.
If I were a biddy biddy rich,
Yidle-diddle-didle-didle man.

I'd build a big tall house with rooms by the dozen,
Right in the middle of the town.
A fine tin roof with real wooden floors below.
There would be one long staircase just going up,
And one even longer coming down,
And one more leading nowhere, just for show.

I'd fill my yard with chicks and turkeys and geese and ducks
For the town to see and hear.
And each loud 'cheep' and 'swaqwk' and 'honk' and 'quack'
Would land like a trumpet on the ear,
As if to say 'Here lives a wealthy man.'

If I were a rich man,
Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum.
All day long I'd biddy biddy bum.
If I were a wealthy man.
I wouldn't have to work hard.
Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum.
If I were a biddy biddy rich,
Yidle-diddle-didle-didle man.

I see my wife, my Golde, looking like a rich man's wife
With a proper double-chin.
Supervising meals to her heart's delight.
I see her putting on airs and strutting like a peacock.
Oy, what a happy mood she's in.
Screaming at the servants, day and night.

The most important men in town would come to fawn on me!
They would ask me to advise them,
Like a Solomon the Wise.
'If you please, Reb Tevye...'
'Pardon me, Reb Tevye...'
Posing problems that would cross a rabbi's eyes!
And it won't make one bit of difference if i answer right or wrong.
When you're rich, they think you really know!

If I were rich, I'd have the time that I lack
To sit in the synagogue and pray.
And maybe have a seat by the Eastern wall.
And I'd discuss the holy books with the learned men, several hours every day.
That would be the sweetest thing of all.

If I were a rich man,
Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum.
All day long I'd biddy biddy bum.
If I were a wealthy man.
I wouldn't have to work hard.
Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum.
If I were a biddy biddy rich,
Yidle-diddle-didle-didle man.

"A Simple Friend"

Just I poem I found on the internet, and like =)

A SIMPLE FRIEND

A simple friend has never seen you cry.
A real friend has shoulders soggy from your tears.

A simple friend doesn't know your parents first names.
A real friend has their phone numbers in his address book.

A simple friend hates it when you call after he has gone to bed.
A real friend asks you why it took you so long to call.

A simple friend seeks to talk with you about your problems.
A real friend seeks to help you with your problems.

A simple friend wonders about your romantic history.
A real friend could blackmail you with it.

A simple friend, when visiting, acts like a guest.
A real friend opens the refrigerator and helps himself.

A simple friend thinks the friendship is over when you have an argument.
A real friend knows that it's not a friendship until after you've had fight
lil island Gal

Letters =)

I just felt like writing "letters" today =) Below are some "letters" I wrote to different people =)
Some of to people who will probably never read my blog, some are to my close friends, and some are to other people who have touched my life in some way =)

Dear Friend,
I bet you never knew, and I bet you never WILL know, but you were my inspiration. I bet you never knew I was constantly watching you. If you told a joke, I would laugh, remember it, and treasure it. If you said your favorite color was red, suddenly, my favorite color was red. I would wear anything in my wardrobe that was red. When you started to wear a Boston Red Sox cap, guess what I wanted, and started to wear? You started bringing your camera around with you and taking pictures of everything and everyone. I bet you didn't know, but you were my role model. What you did, I did. What you said, I said. I have so much to thank you for! I loved your hair when it was just a little bit longer, and I could never stand it right after you got it cut. You made me laugh so much during those years we were friends.
It's you I have to thank for my love of photography. It's you I have to thank for all those smiles. It's you I have to thank in so many other ways. I bet you never realized you had a shadow =)
We've grown very distant over the years, and while you have probably have forgotten me, I still watch you and smile, remembering all those years.
Thank you friend =)

Dear B.K.,
What can I say? You're my BFFL! You're awesome in a lot of ways =) You're helped me to be more like me, than any other friend I have ever had! You have encouraged me every step of the way since that first hello. You're sweet, beautiful, thoughtful, and inspiring. Before I met you, I was the girl hiding in the corner. But you've helped me to become (crazy, cough cough) more myself. You've helped me to lose that last shell, and to be more confident in myself! =) Before you, I NEVER. EVER. Would dance, sing, or goof around in public, especially at yg. Yah, I was boring ;) But because of you, I'm more confident in myself, and I love being random ;) I love how we can look at each other, and burst into a laughing fit. Or how we can quote movies back and forth, and talk about our dreams together <3 You're the best BFFL a person can have <3
Love you girl! <3

Dear T. P. M.,
You're awesome.  ;) You encourage me, you're always there when I need someone to talk to. When I want to kill someone (not literally, but, you know what I mean), it's you and my bffl that I go to first. =) You're one of only a couple of people who can calm me down when I'm really really mad at someone. You're like a second mom to me! When I feel like the world is crashing down on me, it's you I talk to. When I feel sad, you're always the one who can cheer me up ;) You always have a quote about almost everything (you probably even have a quote about cheese ;) ). What I want to know, is my weren't you born as my sister?! ;) I love you, and you're awesome!
Thank you for every single time you've helped me out, wether you realized you helped me out or not! =)

Dear C.M.,
Three musketeers! It's so fun talking to you! ;) And I always find it amazing just how many times you can hurt your foot in a couple of weeks ;) I enjoy quoting Nemo back and forth ;) It's so fun being around you, and if you add the other Musketeer, it's an even crazier great time! ;) I love how us musketeers can just look at each other and burst into a fit of laughter hehe ;) and you were stunning in your prom dress girl! That dress was MADE for you! ;)
You're so great, funny, awesome, crazy (very) ;) , and we have to find a way to hook up together more often than yg! =D
Love you! <3

Dear Z.V.,
You. Are. CRAZY! ("Crazy? I was crazy once...") And that is why you're one of my closest friends! =D I'm so glad we met back in Awana! =D You're one of only 4 friends that can make me smile just by seeing you! I've also always thought it was cool how we're the same age for 5 days of every year  =D Thank you for being my friend! Thank you for all the smiles, and laughter you've given me! I hope you'll be my Awana photography partner next year too? =D

Dear H. P.,
I will never forget meeting you that first Awana night... I was in 4th grade, and you were in 6th Grade, working on I believe your third book. Ever since that night, I have considered you one of my closest friends =) Even though you're only going to be gone at college for only a little bit, it's still going to be a long time for me... I mean, who's going to give me high fives? Who's going to have a lot of caffeine and then come to youth group?! Who's going to give shoulder massages to everyone? Who's are the little Cubbies going to get attached to?! I don't know about everyone else, but I'm going to miss you a lot... Thank for always being a great friend =) I hope our friendship never ends =)

Here a List, There a List, Everywhere a List, List! ;)

How many of you out there make lists? That is one thing I seem to do all the time, and I only just recently noticed it... When I make/spend money, I make a list of how much and where. When I want to bake, I go through the cookbooks, and I'll make a list of possible recipes that I have the ingredients available for.
But lately I've been obsessed with goals, and wishes. And here comes into play my list making. I have been thinking about what I want to do with my life, and what I want in general. As well as some things I would like to do. Some are simple, some are more complex... =)
For example: I love taking photos, and I would love to go to the beach or a park/cemetery and just spend the entire day taking pictures!
Another example: I would like to visit (A) any museum (B) The Smithsonian
The list about what I want to do in life doesn't consist of much, well, at least not as much as "things that look like fun that I want to do list" (That was a spur of the moment name... I need to come up with a better SHORTER one haha )

Some of the list entries:

1. Take a photo shoot at (A) a beach (B) A lighthouse (C) A park (D) a cemetery
2. Go window shopping, or looking through stores, and also go to the Portland Maine Mall
3. Go to a museum
4. See a professional sidewalk artist in work
5. Go to an actual concert

*Yes, I am home schooled... No, I've never been to any mall... No, I have never gone to a authentic concert, nor a museum. And No, I don't go to parks/beaches/cemeteries/lighthouses
=)

But my notebook it starting to fill up! haha =D I looked through it, and I have a individual list for: a party (games, food, people who would be invited), a list of books I do or do not have, movies I like and would like to have, what I wanted to give to who for Christmas, goals I have, My "Bucket List", games I would like to get, things I would like to do, random guy and girl names ( I write stories, so I need names ) ;)  ,  as well as other various lists haha =D

And I'll probably add a few more lists to it within the week  day

;)

Dr. Seuss Quotes

Ok..today just felt like a Dr. Seuss kinda day, so I'm just going to post some of my favorite Dr. Seuss quotes =D I hope you enjoy them as much as I do, and I also hope they bring a smile (or smiles) into your days! =)

“I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living.”

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go...”
“Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.”

“Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!”

“You're off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting,
So... get on your way!”

“So be sure when you step, Step with care and great tact. And remember that life's A Great Balancing Act. And will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed! (98 and ¾ percent guaranteed) Kid, you'll move mountains.”

(This one makes almost no sense, but it still makes me smile!)

“When beetles fight these battles in a bottle with their paddles
and the bottle's on a poodle and the poodle's eating noodles...
...they call this a muddle puddle tweetle poodle beetle noodle
bottle paddle battle.”

(And this next one is one of the best quotes from Horton Hears a Who) (That show has so many quotable quotes!)

“ASAP. Whatever that means. It must mean, 'Act swiftly awesome pacyderm!”

“Oh the places you'll go! There is fun to be done! There are points to be scored. There are games to be won. And the magical things you can do with that ball will make you the winning-est winner of all.”

I don't know why it felt like a Dr. Seuss day, but reading his quotes makes me smile, and laugh. It just seemed to go with the beautiful sunshine, and lovely day =) So it just seems right to be a Dr. Seuss day! =D

Shel Silverstein Poems- Messy Room and Picture Puzzle Piece

I'm just posting a couple more poems I really enjoy =)

This first one reminds me very much of a certain room... I just can't recall which one (cough, cough) ;)

Messy Room
 by
 Shel Silverstein
Whosever room this is should be ashamed!
His underwear is hanging on the lamp.
His raincoat is there in the overstuffed chair,
And the chair is becoming quite mucky and damp.
His workbook is wedged in the window,
His sweater's been thrown on the floor.
His scarf and one ski are beneath the TV,
And his pants have been carelessly hung on the door.
His books are all jammed in the closet,
His vest has been left in the hall.
A lizard named Ed is asleep in his bed,
And his smelly old sock has been stuck to the wall.
Whosever room this is should be ashamed!
Donald or Robert or Willie or--
Huh? You say it's mine? Oh, dear,
I knew it looked familiar!

I found another poem by Shel Silverstein that I love too! =)

Picture Puzzle Piece
by
Shel Silverstein
One picture puzzle piece
Lyin' on the sidewalk,
One picture puzzle piece
Soakin' in the rain.
It might be a button of blue
On the coat of the woman
Who lived in a shoe.
It might be a magical bean,
Or a fold in the red
Velvet robe of a queen.
It might be the one little bite
Of the apple her stepmother
Gave to Snow White.
It might be the veil of a bride
Or a bottle with some evil genie inside.
It might be a small tuft of hair
On the big bouncy belly
Of Bobo the Bear.
It might be a bit of the cloak
Of the Witch of the West
As she melted to smoke.
It might be a shadowy trace
Of a tear that runs down an angel's face.
Nothing has more possibilities
Than one old wet picture puzzle piece.

I love how just one puzzle piece can lead to so many questions, and fantasy =D It absolutley amazing how many endless possiblies there are for what ONE puzzle piece could be a part of! "Is it part of a puppy's collar, or the queens red velvet gown? or is it the  red of a wagon rolling into town? Is it the leaf of a tree? Or a toy in a box marked free?"
(And no, I didn't get that off the web anywhere haha ) =)

Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou

Some people may not like the following poem, but I find it amusing... ;)

Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou
Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman

Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Taylor Swift-You Belong with Me

This is one of my absolute favorite songs <3 =)
And I think just about every girl can sympathize with it! ;)

You're on the phone with your girlfriend, she's upset
She's going off about something that you said
'Cause she doesn't get your humor like I do

I'm in the room, it's a typical Tuesday night
I'm listening to the kind of music she doesn't like
And she'll never know your story like I do

But she wears short skirts, I wear T-shirts
She's Cheer Captain and I'm on the bleachers
Dreaming about the day when you wake up and find
That what you're looking for has been here the whole time

If you could see that I'm the one who understands you
Been here all along, so why can't you see?
You, you belong with me, you belong with me

Walking the streets with you and your worn-out jeans
I can't help thinking this is how it ought to be
Laughing on a park bench, thinking to myself
Hey, isn't this easy?

And you've got a smile that could light up this whole town
I haven't seen it in a while since she brought you down
You say you're fine, I know you better than that
Hey, what ya doing with a girl like that?

She wears high heels, I wear sneakers
She's Cheer Captain and I'm on the bleachers
Dreaming about the day when you wake up and find
That what you're looking for has been here the whole time

If you could see that I'm the one who understands you
Been here all along, so why can't you see?
You belong with me

Standing by and waiting at your back door
All this time how could you not know?
Baby, you belong with me, you belong with me

Oh, I remember you driving to my house in the middle of the night
I'm the one who makes you laugh when you know you're 'bout to cry
And I know your favorite songs and you tell me 'bout your dreams
Think I know where you belong, think I know it's with me

Can't you see that I'm the one who understands you?
Been here all along, so why can't you see?
You belong with me

Standing by and waiting at your back door
All this time, how could you not know?
Baby, you belong with me, you belong with me

You belong with me
Have you ever thought just maybe
You belong with me?
You belong with me
~Taylor Swift

Stars- Sarah Teasdale & Winter Stars-Sara Teasdale

Here is another of my favorite poems =)

Stars

Alone in the night
On a dark hill
With pines around me
Spicy and still,

And a heaven full of stars
Over my head,
White and topaz
And misty red;

Myriads with beating
Hearts of fire
That aeons
Cannot vex or tire;

Up the dome of heaven
Like a great hill,
I watch them marching
Stately and still,
And I know that I
Am honored to be
Witness
Of so much majesty.
Sarah Teasdale

I enjoy this one too, by the same author =)

Winter Stars

By Sara Teasdale

I went out at night alone;
The young blood flowing beyond the sea
Seemed to have drenched my spirit’s wings—
I bore my sorrow heavily.

But when I lifted up my head
From shadows shaken on the snow,
I saw Orion in the east
Burn steadily as long ago.

From windows in my father’s house,
Dreaming my dreams on winter nights,
I watched Orion as a girl
Above another city’s lights.

Years go, dreams go, and youth goes too,
The world’s heart breaks beneath its wars,
All things are changed, save in the east
The faithful beauty of the stars.
